OK, so how long is Nancy Pelosi going to hold down her own Dems in Congress for the offshore oil vote?

With many Dems in Congress clamoring for the right to vote, why is she so stubborn? Will any congressmen put forth a motion to nominate a new speaker?OK, so how long is Nancy Pelosi going to hold down her own Dems in Congress for the offshore oil vote?
We want to drill for oil while looking for alternative sources, those who don't want to drill for oil / natural gas need to reevaluate their status and their grand kids status's. We will find alternative energy, BUT we'll always have a need for oil. We just don't want to have it as a primary means of energy.OK, so how long is Nancy Pelosi going to hold down her own Dems in Congress for the offshore oil vote?
Because the majority of governors from the states on the coasts don't want to drill off the shores of their states. Arnold is a big opponent of off shore drilling and he is a Republican. Get a clue. There's very little oil there. It will take more money to drill than is worth the effort and it won't bring down the price of gas in the next 5 years.

Our only hope is clean renewable energy that will create jobs and protect the environment, but I wouldn't expect anyone who doesn't give a damn about their children or grandchildren to care. You're going to be left in teh dust because you don't have the ability to adjust to different conditions. Survival of the fittest takes on a new meaning.

The reason oil prices came down over the past week are.....Al Gore proposed a bold plan to convert our electrical energy to wind and solar power. T. Boone Pickens proposed the same thing. Texas approved a massive wind energy project and Congress is investigating oil speculators.

Excuse me, but state governors have the power to stop offshore drilling . Arnold Schwarzenegger will not allow it in California...he's already said that. Other governors have made the same pledge. It's not a secret. Look it up.
The oil companies has leases on 68 MILLION ACRES of land that they could be drilling on RIGHT NOW. They have been sitting on it. If they start drilling off-shore it will be at least 10 years.

The oil companies are sitting on the land. The oil is going down and I think it is a ploy for the Republicans to get back in the white house then we will be paying $8 @ gal within 2 years.

Yes, Drill - The 68 Million Acres Already Under Lease

(Then get on with an honest policy for the future)

After years of failed energy policies that contributed to sky-rocketing fuel prices and environmental degradation, the Bush-Cheney White House and their Congressional allies now seek to divert the public鈥檚 attention. After almost eight years of subsidizing a wealthy oil industry and refusing to appropriately diversify our energy resources, their best and brightest solution is drilling 鈥?a path that would further distance us from what should be our shared goal of reducing our dependency on fossil fuels.

From 1999 to 2007, drilling permits issued for the development of public lands increased by more than 361%, despite such an increase gasoline prices rose exponentially. At that rate, the United States, which uses about 25% of the world鈥檚 energy but has only an estimated 2% of energy reserves, will never drill its way to a solution.

Additionally, oil companies have refused to even file for permits to build refineries that could process crude oil, thus keeping supplies of gasoline and heating fuel low and prices 鈥?and their profits 鈥?high. Furthermore, companies already lease 91.5 million acres of on-land and off-shore federal lands, yet only 23.7 million acres are actually used for production. One could be justified in concluding that the industry is simply speculating by stockpiling more federal lands, while deflecting attention.

There are ways to affect fuel prices. Although it would have slow and minimal effect on current prices, we could start by compelling oil companies to actually develop the already-leased acres or risk losing their permits or incurring an escalating charge for letting them lie unused. The monies collected could be applied to lowering prices for consumers or for research and development of alternative sources of energy. Such a bill is being passed by the New Majority in Congress.

That same New Majority Congress has already passed into law - over strenuous Administration opposition - mandating new fuel efficiency standards for vehicles and requiring new standards for appliances and building materials. The U.S. House of Representatives has also passed bills to combat price fixing, market manipulation and price gouging by unscrupulous companies. It also is moving to curb unregulated market speculation that experts claim may be adding $30 or more to the cost of every barrel of oil.

The Bush Administration and its accomplices are opposing these obvious solutions as well. Pundits are right when they suggest that if this oil-oriented White House isn鈥檛 going to lead then it should get out of the way.

Still, we should not have to wait for sensible action. Together, with the aforementioned legislation, we should act now to move forward on support for mass transit and on the redirection of fossil fuel subsidies of big oil companies toward support for efficiencies and alternative energy resources.

So, yes, drill the leases already available as a bridge to the future, but stop misleading the public by claiming that drilling in fishing grounds and conservation areas is the solution America needs and deserves, and let us move forward with an honest and effective energy policy for the future.

Congressman John F. Tierney (D-MA) is currently serving in his sixth term in Congress representing the Sixth District of Massachusetts.

I hope so...;just Bush doing his part in allowing off-shore drilling has brought down the price about .50 cents a gallon in a week.

Until Dems. can come up with a better solution, not 20 years down the road, we must drill now. It will save the economy.
Drill drill drill and drill yesterday again.

If we wanted a new resource to ';save the animals'; we would have done it years ago. Now we have more YEARS to wait for that resource, just so we can survive and find something new.

Short sighted week feeble minded jackholes!
We need to throw congress out on the street.

This is the worst led congress we have ever had. I cannot believe that the media and democrats get away with blaming everything on Bush.

This congress has done Nothing.

And note- I am not defending Bush.
Until you voters finally start listening to the DOE and Guvner Arnold and even Bush who admitted it would not change gas prices....Long enough.
Lets try to find a new resource and forget oil and think about the animals.
Only as long as it takes to find a lie that will make it look like the repubs are responsible for it.
You do realize oil prices are falling as the value of the dollar goes up riiight?
She is queen of the world, didn't you get the memo
Two Rep's are voting against the drilling from Wyoming
