Do you think drilling for American offshore oil will help the oil crisis? ?

And Why?

[Even though America uses 25% of the worlds oil, and we possess less than (i think) 10% of the worlds oil. And we can't access a drop for 10 years...]Do you think drilling for American offshore oil will help the oil crisis? ?
Drilling here is only a small part of the equation. In 1975 then Pres. Jimmy Carter signed into law a raising of the EPA standards making it virtually financially impossible to build a new refinery in this country. At the time of that signing, there were no less than 560 refineries operating in this country. Since that time, not a new one has been built and we are now down to less than 150. It is a matter then of supply and demand. We need also to expand our other energy sources. Seems the only time we take an active interest in R%26amp;D of alternatives is when the price of oil shoots up. During the oil embargo (brought on by bad political dealings of Carter) we researched oil shale, wind and solar. Since the prices went back down once the embargo was lifted, we quit looking and the cost of those alternatives remained high making them un viable. Do you think drilling for American offshore oil will help the oil crisis? ?
Your even though facts are incorrect. We could be using it in less than 3 years. We have as much if not more oil as the middle east. Just threatening to drill caused oil prices to drop 20% before the economy crashed. The price to create a gallon of gas has fallen by $1.42 but the price at the pump has only fallen by .65 cents. At the current cost of producing a gallon of gas the price at the pump should be around $2.60 per gallon. You're being fleeced and lied to. Stop listening to politicians especially liberal ones.
Do you? We have three fuels that have been researched and developed and ready for use for 50-70 years now (depending on which of the three one is talking about) but the oil industry passes laws to restrict the sale of these fuels so they won't have any real competition.
Sure... Ten years from now! Until then...Suck It!

And yes it can hurt. Do you have any idea how expensive it is going to be to the American tax payer to trust the oil industry to do this and do it the right way? We can't afford more fk ups.
I think its important to have the production ready to go in case of a crisis.. drill , tap, and cap if you have to.. But the result of the last economic meltdown was WWII and I think you have to be ready to be cut off from foreign oil.
It's too late to mean anything! Don't you people get that? We could have been drilling off shore 20 years ago, but nobody would have made billions off that! Why is that so hard to understand? nobody cares if you pay $50/gallon as long as the right people make money?
We need to drill temporarily until we can find another source. We can't just sit back and wait for the electric cars and other fuel sources to be plentiful. We need to drill now, at least for the time being. Obama doesn't understand this.
Yes. Its psychological. No one actually knows how much oil is out there. In the meantime, it buys us a little time to find other sources of energy which is economically and politically feasible.
yes.

Becasue if in ';10 years'; no substitute is found you can either be paying 5x the current rate or have ';American'; reserves to offset the cost
No, and depending on where they drill, methane will be released in to the atmosphere. That will add to the global warming problem.
nope concentrating on alternative enrgy sources will help us out..we drill all of the oil out of alaska we got nowhere else of american land
Learning how to pay down deficits and reducing the amount of excess US dollars is circulation would do far more good than drilling and selling on the world market.
It will assist, with 3% of the worlds reserves, we can create at least a 20-30yr supply bridge to develop alt energy
I have a question for you. If we don't start drilling now, how much oil will be refining in 10 years?
NO, REDUCE 1% YAY
It can't hurt. If its there why not use it?
It may or may not. There's a lot of greed in the oil industry. I don't know how I feel about it yet.
or we could just end our dependence on oil altogether.
NO, investing money in alternative energy will solve the problem.

Think green!!
