Given the increasing shortages of oil, do you think offshore drilling is worthwhile? Why or why not?

Offshore drilling for oil cause water pollution from oil spills kill off many organisms in the rich and varied ecosystems along the shores.Given the increasing shortages of oil, do you think offshore drilling is worthwhile? Why or why not?
First off, there have been no shortages of oil recently. We had a massive commodity bubble the last few years, but there were no shortages - shortage meaning that you can't buy something at any price.

To answer the bit about offshore drilling - no, it's not worthwhile. It's like investing in typewriters in 1980; we'd be putting money into a soon-to-be dying technology and an obsolete energy investment paradigm. On top of that, oil is useful for many, many things besides fuel, and I don't like the idea of burning up every last drop of our domestic reserves just to make gasoline maybe a nickle cheaper per gallon. Even more so now that gas is below $1.50.

We should leave those reserves in the ground in the event of a genuine crisis on the supply side and rapidly implement alternative sources of energy.Given the increasing shortages of oil, do you think offshore drilling is worthwhile? Why or why not?
when was the last time that has happned? and should everyone in the entire world drill for there own oil but america? did you know china made a deal with cuba and are now currently drilling for oil 50 miles off the cost of miami? yeah they want that oil really bad to transport it that far everday, but hey at least there getting there own.
Supply is up. Demand is falling.

I favor holding our reserves so that some day we will control what's left. That does not mean sitting on our hands, but getting ready so we can drill it when necessary. There are many ways to do it cleanly. The Norwegians have developed a system to pull CO2 out of their natural gas as they drill, freeze and store it under the Ocean. Technology will solve our problems down the road, and many scientists believe the solution is right around the corner.
No, it isn't worth it.

We already have the capabilities to get off oil when it comes to transportation and about 40% of our residential needs.

Pixi every other industrialized nation also offers universal care (save for a couple) why aren't we?
no we over pollute this beautiful country too much as it is. we need to find other sources of energy or organize or society better by improving or railway and bus systems.

i grew in los angeles when the beaches were gorgeous now they're filthy and suck to swim in.
