Is it that difficult to get an offshore Oil Rig job?

A few people have said on yahoo answers that I have little chance of getting an oil rig job, even if I get my BOSIET survival training certificate. However, my Mum's friend, whose husband works on the rigs, reckons that if I completed the survival course, he could get me a job on the rigs no problem as they are always looking for workers. Does anyone have any input? Is it that difficult to get an offshore Oil Rig job?
first of all do you have a trade?

there are very few jobs for a non-tradesman offshore.

you might get a job as a steward if you have any inkling for cleaning duties and food serving.

maybe have some luck with pressure jetting if you can do this but its a dirty job.

there are recruitment agencies that specialise in offshore jobs, (google search) up here in aberdeen but there are also some in great yarmouth for southern north sea.

also major oil construction companies like wood group, petrofac, psn, rgb, salamis, all aberdeen based all work the north sea.

again it pays to have a recognised trade. there is plenty of work in the summer when the shutdowns start but winter can be slow and there are lots of people looking like you.

its not a great life stuck out there but its good crack and good lifelong friends.

personally i do it for the time off it brings.

i do 2 weeks on and 3 weeks off, 365 days a year in all weathers, 12 hours on, 12 hours off for the 14 days i,m on the rig.

wouldn,t change it!!!!!!!!!!Is it that difficult to get an offshore Oil Rig job?
there are agencies for oil rigs do a search and contact them (phone more professional) have some questions for them and ask away

good luck
I would believe someone who works on the rigs, rather than random people spending time in YA!
no
